About the Founder
Sister Therapies was founded initially in 2024 by therapist Laura Nxumalo. As a qualified therapist she became inspired by her years of experience of supporting women in the mental health sector as she became more and more passionate about supporting women specifically. After several years of experience in volunteer work for charities such as Childline and Trafford Rape Crisis she decided to build a non-profit of her own. Her work as a therapist led her to want to do more in her local community to support women with mental health and general well-being.
Our Aims
Who we are
We aim to support women with:
•Mental health
•Well-being
•Self-care
•Personal Development
Sister Therapies was created to bring a safe space for women to feel a sense of community and get support. The aim is that women can have a free service but still receive excellent support in terms of mental health, mental well-being, general well-being, self-care and personal development. We recognise that there is a cost to private therapy or working with a coach and NHS waiting lists are extremely long and do not offer long term support. We want to create a space where there is peer support and a sense of community for women who want to improve their lives intentionally.
Our Values
Community
We believe in building a sense of community for women, to feel safe and heard as well as supported. We believe in fostering an atmosphere for peer support as well as professional support. Women that use our service will be able to be involved as much as they feel comfortable with.
Empowerment
We believe in empowering women and pouring into women so they can develop and grow into the best possible version of themselves. We believe in encouraging women to strive for more and constantly grow and develop their skills, passions and ambitions.
Intention
We believe that although seeking support can be challenging it is important to be intentional. We encourage women to be intentional about every aspect of their lives. We take a holistic approach to supporting women, instead of being prescriptive. This will be as and when appropriate. We will encourage women to be intentional with the way they seek support and how they receive support from our services.
Compassion
We believe in a compassionate approach to supporting women. We aim to uplift and empower but we also value doing this from a space of compassion. We believe in encouraging compassion to others and encouraging self-compassion. We aim to offer a safe space filled with kindness.
